Ride oo1; video//action for Crystalden

[ The first thing that shows up on the feed is something that looks a bit like a motorcycle, though there seem to be a few key components missing, like the brakes, the digital screen (which looks more like it's been ripped out than carefully removed), and a few other things. At the very least, the Momentum core which powers the D-Wheel is sitting off to the side, as dim as it'd been when it was still part of the machine. The entire thing looks a bit dirty with some scratches as if someone rushed to dismantle it.

And from the look on the face of the man that's sitting next to the D-Wheel, frown deep and brows furrowed as he sets the his communication device down and works on taking out the components of the engine that help it run on Momentum... it wasn't him that did it. ]

So, Momentum doesn't work here at all. [ Admittedly, the idea that it doesn't makes him feel a little homesick. ] Unfortunately, that's the only energy source I've ever worked with when building anything. I could probably use some help with a basic engine.

[ He could probably do it himself, but he'd rather have someone who knows exactly what they're doing actually making sure he's doing it right, especially since he doesn't particularly like the idea of just taking whatever he can without having to pay for it. Building a bike out of scraps that have been thrown away is different from just... taking whatever nice part is sitting in a storefront. It doesn't sit well with him at all. He lifts a screwdriver to clench between his teeth and leans in close to try to work on something inside of the D-Wheel, then takes the tool to tighten whatever it is. Once that's done, he sits up and presses a button that releases his Duel Disk from the dash, and he sighs in relief mumbling something about at least getting that fixed.

... Duel Disks are serious business, okay. Especially when he only has the one. ]

Has anyone else had issues with finding things of theirs dismantled after arriving?

[A light blinks signaling a response, and when the video feed opens, a wide-eyed boy stares out from the tiny monitor.]

Is that... a Duel Disk?

[ Yuusei seems content to avoid looking at the video itself at first, focusing on trying to fix what he can of his D-Wheel. Though, once he hears 'Duel Disk', Yuusei's gaze snaps to the phone and he nods. ]

You know what it is?

[ He'd run into so many people that hadn't known what Duel Monsters was that having a voice chime in and recognize something so universal in his own world surprises - and pleases - him. ]

Do I know what it is? [Jesse just stares at the screen incredulously for a moment before taking a step back, holding out his arm, and releasing his Duel Disk. He might not have a deck anymore, but he's still a duelist through and through -- he always will be -- and even though things look bleak, he just hasn't had the heart to take off his Duel Disk for good. Of course, to Yuusei, Jesse's model will be decades out of date.]

Heck, I never leave home without mine!

[ And at that, Yuusei can't help but smile. It's a relief to meet yet another duelist - even if he hasn't caught sight of his own friends from home yet, there are at least others that share his love of dueling. ]

I'm glad to see another duelist here, then. I'm Yuusei. [ He eyes the disk for a moment, though. ] Where are you from, though? I haven't seen a Duel Disk like that since I was a kid.

[ You know. In a scrap heap. ]

[Jesse finds himself returning Yuusei's smile; deck or no deck, it is a relief to meet another duelist. That means that there are people from his world here, which gives him even more hope that he might run into one of his friends.]

Me, I'm from North Academy! [He puts his Duel Disk away, cocking his head as he peers at the monitor of his device.] Well, originally, anyway. I came here from Duel Academy. Which school are you from?

Oh, you're a student then.

[ ... But that definitely doesn't look like any uniform he's seen the students there wearing. Then he remembers having met Atem previously and conversation that followed there, and it makes sense. Time to choose his words carefully. ]

I never went to the school in the city, though I have friends there. But if I remember right... there's one out on an island not too far from the city, right?

That's right! That'd be good ol' Duel Academy. [He seems pleased that Yuusei has heard of the place, despite the fact that pretty much everyone has heard of the Duel Academy.] North Academy's a sister school, tucked away way high up in the mountains.

[ Last he remembers hearing, North Academy was relocated to a 'safer environment' for the younger students that were being admitted to Duel Academias everywhere. If nothing else, it only confirms his suspicions that yes, this kid's from a different time than him. He wonders, though... ]

Sounds like a tough place to go to school at - I'd say your transfer was a good thing. But you've got friends to count on in case things go south, right?

I-- [It still takes some work to prevent his smile from faltering, but he's getting better at it, what with how often people keep asking about his friends.] Well, I did, but I haven't seen hide nor hair of them since I got here.

[ Ah, so he's in just about the same boat as Yuusei. There are people he "knows", but none from his own time. ]

Well, I'm sure you will soon enough. Just keep up the hope that you will and believe in them, and they'll come. I'm kind of dealing with the same thing - none of my friends from home are here, but you've got at least one new friend now, right?

[ Of course, he's talking about himself. You don't just talk to Yuusei and be a duelist without becoming his friend. Sorry, Jesse. ]

[It's easy to smile after that.] I sure as heck do! By the by, what's your name? I'm Jesse. Jesse Anderson.

[ See, that's what Yuusei likes to see, and he nods approvingly at that. ]

Yuusei Fudou. [ And he has a voice that makes the fangirls swoon. ] It's good to have met you.

[For some reason, Jesse feels his heart go doki-doki when Yuusei says his name. He doesn't even know what doki-doki means, but his heart does that, and he almost stutters when he replies.] My pleasure!

[ A pause -- Yuusei's never been the best at casually social situations, but at least he's making the effort here. ]

Which district did you end up in, anyway?

I'm in Orlea, how about you?

Crystalden. Reminds me of home here, so I could've been put in worse.

[ But it's still not a big enough reminder of home to really... be home. Sure, he's quick to adapt, but it'll be a while before he considers anywhere else but Neo Domino City or Satellite his home. ]

Either way, once my D-Wheel is finished, I plan to go to the other districts to try to see if any of my friends are there.

That's round abouts where I'm at right now -- just trying to hang tight and keep an eye out for my pals. No luck so far, though.

It's good to be actively looking instead of just sitting around and waiting. Someone had a good idea about posting a kind of wanted ad for our friends that may appear, and put them in every district on a bulletin board that would stand out to them. At the very least, they'd see it and know where to find any of their friends that may already be here.

That is a good idea. I wonder if we could put somethin' similar up on the network... like a sticky post that wouldn't get lost in all the other activity, where people could make a list of everyone who's missing.

i think i can probably help you out with that. or at least teach you some stuff so you can take care of it yourself, if you prefer.

Either way is fine. I'm used to figuring things out through trial and error on my own, but I don't necessarily want to risk that here.

in that case... i guess i'd like to see it in person before i give any advice. as far as i can tell so far, the technology here's about in line with what i can work with... but i've never seen anything designed the way your vehicle is.

I built it from scratch myself. I'm surprised it even made it here with me, but I'm glad it did.

[ Why yes, yes it is. But it seems the magic words have been said, and it catches Yuusei's attention more than anything else likely would. ]

I am. [ A pause as he takes in the other's appearance. ] I take it you are, too.

[a small smirk and a nod] When the occasion calls for it.

[which is like. every occasion let's be real here.]

My name is V. It's good to see there's another duelist here.

Yuusei.

[ Well, a fellow duelist is always welcome to him - nothing bad has ever come out of meeting a duelist properly ~~yet~~, so there's no point in having suspicions about anyone. Especially in a place like this, where duelists seem to be few and far between. ]

Yeah, it's always good when so many others here don't seem to know about Duel Monsters. Have you not met any others yet?

I've been more concerned about getting to know the place than the people in it. [because he's an antisocial little dick ~~the mun is a lazy butt~~] Acquainting myself with the technology they have in particular. It seems to be a bit behind ours, so I wanted to make sure I knew what we were dealing with.

[ Yuusei can definitely make sense of that. Though, to hear that the technology in Crystalden is behind what V knows... Of course, he wants to hear more about that. ]

You're saying yours is even more advanced than this? [ Spill it, V, because now he's a little concerned. ~~There's no way a man can be so pretty and still be human, obviously.~~ ] Neo Domino City's isn't as far along as the technology here, so I'm curious how much farther what you're used to is.

[ ... Then again, it could also be chalked up to a bright future and meaning that Yliaster's full of crap about needing to change it. B| ]

[oh no, Yuusei, no, he will just go on and on about this DO YOU REALLY WANT THAT...yes, you probably do.]

A little, though it might be more accurate to say we've taken different paths. I haven't found any evidence of hologram technology here, or artificial reality capabilities, but other things seem to be on a similar level, like the communication devices. In Crystalden, at least.

[actually he is REALLY GLAD for these things because unfortunately, D-Gazer tattoos can't exactly function like phones like normal D-Gazers. ~~why did anyone think they were a good idea god.~~]

...I haven't heard of Momentum or Neo Domino before, though, so it could be we're also on different paths. [or everyone got smart and ditched that shit before it could destroy everything WHO EVEN KNOWS]

[ Yes, tell him more, V. Seriously. ]

That would explain a lot, though. Instead of putting research into something like Solid Vision, the knowledge went towards other things instead here.

[ Though then you've gotta go and say something like that, V, and now Yuusei's really concerned. If Yliaster's successful in destroying Neo Domino City and preventing Momentum from causing anymore incidents (and Synchro Summoning is banned entirely)... Now he has to ask, though. ]

You've never heard of... What about Synchro Summoning? [ Look, he'll even fish out Stardust Dragon to show V. Please say it ain't so! ]

[Sorry, Yuusei, he is going to have to shake his head ~~because so far the evidence suggests it doesn't exist~~. But at least he has the presence of mind to look a bit apologetic about that.]

No, I'm sorry. [thoughtful pause, and then he's digging out a card of his own] The newest addition to the game has been Xyz Summoning, as far I know.

[and have a nice shot of Dyson Sphere ~~because he's from just before he was able to give it to kaito shush~~ which, of course, has to look kind of like a Dark Synchro at first glance, because why not.]

[ Yeah, that's exactly what it looks like to him, and my goodness V, you are just making Yuusei's mind reel. First a suspicion that he's involved with Yliaster, but then a brief moment of somehow being connected to the Dark Signers? But-- right, if he knows nothing of Synchro Summoning, then there really are a new type of Monster cards and it has nothing to do with the Dark Signers at all.

Yuusei's torn between looking concerned and relieved, at any rate. ~~His deck is screwed, anyway.~~ ]

Xyz Summoning... I'll want to see that in action some day. And then you can see Synchro Summoning as well.

[ Despite it all, Yuusei is kind of looking forward to the idea of dueling someone with a deck he's never even heard of before. ]

I wonder what happened between my time and yours...

[And he gets another small smile for that and a nod.] I look forward to it. Although...[sighing mentally, why can't these things ever be easy] I'll have to find a way to modify my Duel Disk first. It works via AR Vision, so it doesn't work here.

[is that a subtle plea for help? possibly.]

It's difficult to say. I'm afraid I was never terribly interested in history.

AR Vision? [ A pause as he considers it. ] I take it that's similar to the Solid Vision I'm used to. If you'd like, I can try to figure out something to modify it. I'll need to do something similar to my own, since it runs off of Momentum as well.

[ Looks like Yuusei's got his work cut out for him. Clearly, V needs to be the brains of this operation while Yuusei takes care of the physical labor. ]

Ah, that's fine. I wouldn't imagine anyone could be exactly sure about it. [ Besides, that's spoilers. ] I can only hope that the future is still a bright one.

[ Assuming he ever gets home to, you know, fix it. ]

It's not a bad world to live in. [even if his life wasn't great, he can admit that. Heartland has it's issues, but most of them have to do with messing with other worlds rather than theirs being bad.]

Solid Vision means actual holograms, I assume? [that's the impression he's gotten from this conversation anyway. so, thinking about this.] I would guess the biggest difference between the two is the hardware. There's undoubtedly some significant difference in the programming too, but even after fixing that, there would need to be something to project the image and mine doesn't have anything like that...

I wouldn't be any help with more than basic engineering, but I could probably handle fixing the programming. [yep that's the conclusion V's come up with too.]

[ Clearly, they're going to make the perfect team here. And while Yuusei's damn good with programming himself, it wouldn't be the first time someone's outclassed him in that kind of knowledge. Nor would it be the first time it's been someone from the future (not that he knows that detail back home just yet). So honestly, hearing that draws a smile from Yuusei. ]

That sounds about right. We'll both figure something out, I'm sure. I look forward to working with you, V. Once I'm done with my D-Wheel, we can get started.

[ And Yuusei really means it, too. V is one more person he gets to kind of geek out around. (Though he'd really like watch V and Bruno exchange words, because hello geniuses.) ]

That's another thing I haven't heard of before... [Sorry, Yuusei. And then wildly guessing because he was paying attention to things...] Can you duel with that?

[ Yuusei turns the video to get a clearer shot of the D-Wheel (because when someone has an interest in it, it has to be shown off - it's his pride and joy, after all) and lifts the Duel Disk to slide it back in its proper slot so V can see how it works. ]

Yeah. Riding Duels are a world-wide pastime where I'm from. There are special rules for it, but... it's fun.

[ Well. It's fun until you see a man merging with his D-Wheel like it's the best thing to have ever happened to him. ]

No. Mmmm, interesting duel disk design.

[Look who's wearing a duel disk on his arm. The Battle City Duel Disk]

[ ... Give him a moment. Yuusei's never expected to ever see the person that's on the other side of the screen - as far as he's aware, Kaiba's--

He clears his throat and gives a brief nod. ]

It's something that your company's designed, Kaiba-san.

Oh really? Then why don't I know?

[Maybe just maybe other people from the future of his world where also dragged in? No that's preposterous.]
