[Kodachi's device turns on after it's struck by a hardcover book. There's barely enough light to reveal it's title, 'Nightfall: Forbidden Love'.]

This is.. Unacceptable! How is it fair that such a boorish, unworthy girl is blessed with the honor of being the target of affection of not one but two handsome men? Unforgivable!

[There's the sound of fingers drumming along wood for about fifteen seconds while the lady mumbles to herself, but once it stops it's followed by a gasp of realization. And it isn't the realization a certain Tendo is in that very position] Now where did I put that thing... [The book is raised, revealing a teenage girl with black hair, adorn in a lovely black kimono with red petal-print staring down at the screen. She looks confused that it's on, but it's quickly replaced with a pleasant smile. Instead of agitate, her tone is relaxed, with a 'proper' air.]

Good day to you, male denizens of Mallow Hollow. I am Kodachi Kuno, seventeen years old, from Nerima, Japan. Forgive my intrusion, but I have most wonderful news! As of today positions have opened for tw- no, three additional potential suitors to compete with my first, my darling Ranma Saotome, for my eventual hand in marriage and honor of father to our inevitable, many, many children.

Allow me to share a bit about myself: I have no current occupation, but I do aspire to become a knight of Highcrest. My interests include gymnastics, care taking of adorable animals, cooking, and roses.

[At this point Kodachi raises a white paper fan with a large, red circle in the center, and opposite hand now possesses a microphone for no real reason.]

I am looking for a single male between the ages of sixteen and twenty five. They must possess great courage and strength. They must be handsome, slender, and neat. And, most importantly, they must possess ambitions of grandeur!

Also, while it is true I come from a more.. 'traditional' Japanese background, I am not completely against a non-Japanese suitor.

For those interested in this rare chance, please note that I will be holding the contest in two days at Highcrest's Main Square from noon until three. There will be no dress code, but roses and adequate amounts of presence are mandatory.

[And with that, Kodachi tosses both items carelessly to the side, then presses her fingertips together as she flutters her eyelashes.]

[Hubert would probably meet most of Kodachi's requirements, but he has no interest whatsoever in marrying her. Mostly he's just here to scold her for filling the airwaves with such nonsense when more important things could be discussed.]

You mean to say that you are holding an...actual, literal competition...for your hand in marriage?

[He sounds incredulous. He knew ~~mostly from hearsay~~ that Strahtan noblewomen could be prone to playing coy games with their potential suitors, but he's fairly certain none of them ever stooped to being this obvious.]

[Kodachi raises a hand to her cheek and attempts to look as innocent as possible. He seems the type that 'knows better', but really that has just as much potential for fun.]

Goodness, dear sir, that is a rather crude spin on what the actual event is don't you think? Are you a reporter?

[He...doesn't actually know what a reporter is, since they don't have anything like that in Ephinea. But he makes a safe guess that he isn't one.]

Nothing of the sort. I'm merely wondering what could have spurred you to worry about something like marriage when there are more pressing issues at hand here.

'More pressing issues' is a rather subjective set of words, wouldn't you agree?

Romance is a part of my life that I simply cannot live without, Mister... Sir. But out of curiosity, just what would you suggest be more important than your own happiness?

The well-being of my home country, for one thing. [That's not a theoretical situation; he's a soldier, as he'll make clear with his followup comment:]

But even given your situation, there is something to be said about allowing yourself to be consumed with grief and worry. Man cannot live on duty alone.

Duty is more reliable than happiness as a life goal, I've found. And who's to say that a man cannot be happy doing his duty?

[Yeah, says the boy who flat-out refused to marry the girl his adoptive father demanded he marry because he was already in love with another girl.]

Yet I, on the other hand, have found the opposite to be true. How very interesting, wouldn't you agree?

[Kodachi has no idea what kind of baggage he may be carrying, but she suspects he has some related to romance.]

The thing about man being happy doing his duty is.. In many cases it isn't true happiness, I would say it is more of an.. 'Escape'.

[Oh. He. May have suppressed a minor twitch at that, because it hits far too close to home for his liking. He certainly has baggage, but it's more related to feeling like the unwanted child in his biological family and trying to compensate for that in his adoptive one.]

That may be true in some cases, I'll admit. However, this doesn't change the inherent issues with your current plans. Suppose that you acquired a suitor here; what if he were unable to return to your home world with you to properly start a family?

[Kodachi keeps a playful enough expression; and while she isn't certain if she's made a hit or a miss (his poker face is very impressive), she's interested in meeting him personally now. But how should she arrange this?]

My, that is a very good question, Lieutenant. But I do believe the saying goes 'it is better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all'?

I must confess I wasn't expecting such potentially influential? discussion over a communication device. A debate would be most appropriate in person, wouldn't you agree?

Debates are debates, no matter the medium. Some of the most spirited discussions I've had have been through written correspondence.

[In truth, written communication is his preference most of the time. But he has very little interest in talking to Kodachi outside of this conversation, written or otherwise.

(Really, Hubert, you should have just kept your mouth shut and let her have her fun.)]

Hmmn.. Is that true? You must come from quite a ways back. In my timeline I've seen many 'written' conversations degrade to name calling and personal attacks.

Surely you've had a discussion over a warm drink, or a board game haven't you? Do you truly not find the lack of atmosphere bothersome?

[Excuse you, Kodachi, that is a very world-ist thing for you to say about Hubert's home. Or something.]

Not necessarily. One could also argue that such "atmosphere" would detract from the matter at hand. A discussion could readily devolve into a tangled mess of tangents and nonsequiturs if accompanied by other activities. In addition, having things down in writing provides a record to refer back to later.

I must admit, I am rather impressed with your discipline and intellect, even if I may not completely agree with your reasoning.

I reside in Crystalden, but you are otherwise correct. I have been investigating Mallow Hallow to the best of my ability since I arrived.

[Mallow Hallow as a whole is pretty interesting so the thought of investigating doesn't sound entirely a bore, but she's already decided upon her own plans.]

I don't see how that is such a preposterous conclusion to draw, considering the original topic of this conversation.

Hubert is itching to continue arguing this point, but to his credit he does recognize that he's coming across as...less than professional, and thus is only proving Kodachi's (flawed, at least in his opinion) assertion. He inhales deeply, considering the options before him in this conversation. After a few moments, he turns his face slightly so that he's glancing at the video feed sidelong as he adjusts his glasses.]

Very well. I shall agree to this...outing of yours, if you are so insistent on it. [It probably would be wise to save face here; even if he himself doesn't think much of Kodachi, he shouldn't burn bridges too quickly. Assistance and insight could come from the strangest of places.] I will let you select a day for me.
