[Ever since Rapunzel got her communication device, she had been playing with it a little. While she had no idea what was just handed to her, she must have found out how to turn the phone on and call people by mistake because all you see now is part of her face and her extremely long hair being dragged on the ground behind her as she was being manhandled by the people who have been dragging her around since she'd gotten there.]

I don't have time for this! I can't be here! Eugene is in trouble. He's going to die if I can't heal him...

Please stop this!

[No matter what she said or how much she pleaded, they wouldn't listen to her. Just like that, she was left alone in Highcrest and told to find a place to stay. She just stood there without so much of looking at the new device she had been given, completely forgetting that it was broadcasting. She was stuck here and Eugene was dying.]

I can't be here right now.... What am I going to do though? I don't know where I am or how to get out. He's going to die.... because he was protecting me....

[The scroll falls out of her hands as she collapses into tears. No! It couldn't end like this. She couldn't lose Eugene. He told her she could find a new dream after seeing the lanterns, but quite frankly, her new dreams.... They involved living happily with him or something like it. After a while, the communicator turns off by itself.

[Kurama's been watching from the shadows of a nearby alley, drawn by the commotion - in his experience, commotions involving the knights are usually bad news. This one, however, doesn't seem to have anything to do with him, or his sister - but he can't quite seem to bring himself to leave, anyway.

He shouldn't get involved, he knows that - this place is hard enough to deal with, especially now, with his look-alike running around. He should just walk away, go back to his life looking after himself and Emmanuelle, but...

Look at her. She's helpless and all alone, and that golden hair reminds him of home, so before he knows it, he's slipping out of the shadows and approaching the girl, digging into a pocket for a handkerchief.]

[She didn't even notice him approach her until she noticed the handkerchief. Looking up, she was rubbing her eyes.]

Ah... T-thank you..

[She gently took the handkerchief with a thankful look and wiped her tears from her face.]

[He nods in response, hoping she doesn't notice that the handkerchief is high-quality silk - quite at odds with the more common cut of his shirt, vest, and breeches. He'd lifted it from some fancy shop just a few weeks after arriving, mostly just to see if he could.

Of course, it might not matter even if she does notice - he can just say they were given to him, which might as well be true, since nothing here costs any money for the newcomers, anyway.

He crouches to put himself on eye level with her, glancing around as he does so. Sure enough, they're already starting to get some unkind looks from the locals.]

If...you're feeling any better, it might be prudent to move elsewhere.

[She's too distracted to notice that. No worries.]

Why's that? [Noticing the looks now.]

[Not far along behind her brother, Emmanuelle steps from the same alley, hood up over her hair, expression grim. She doesn't crouch, but stays at Kurama's shoulder.]

Because you're drawing unnecessary attention. It's best to avoid that whenever possible.

[Giving Emmanuelle a chastising glance, Kurama stands as well, offering a hand down to Rapunzel to help her up.]

Not all of the locals here are particularly fond of having newcomers dropped into their home. Besides, I thought you might be a little more comfortable somewhere that isn't...the ground.

[He smiles a little.]

[She took his hand lightly as she stood up, grabbing her scroll.]

I guess I understand... The ground, probably isn't the best place to stay.

[There's a sad smile there, but at least she's trying.]

[She ignores the look from Kurama, instead taking the opportunity to ogle the girl's rather long head of hair. It resembles the color of her own hair, before she started coloring it darker. This might have inspired sympathy, but Emmanuelle is reserving judgment for the time being. It seems silly to risk vulnerability, but she won't question Kurama's motives just now.]

Where should we take her, Kurama?

[Annnd you've put your finger on precisely the reason Kurama's helping her. He gives Rapunzel a little encouraging smile, dusting her off lightly.

No, there are no pickpocketing attempts while he does so.]

Well, she'll need a place to stay, won't she? There's some rooms left at the inns, I'd imagine, or some empty cottages farther out from town, if you prefer.

[This last bit is directed at Rapunzel, although now that she's standing, he's sort of realizing just how much hair she has.]

Although...perhaps we should do something with your hair before we go wandering about.

I guess it doens't matter to me but... Maybe the cottages would be better?

[She's used to her long hair so, she's kind of forgotten about how others react towards it. Scooping up her long hair in her arms.]

Ah! It's okay as long as I'm not in a crowded place.

Good Lord. [She doesn't see how anyone can possibly have that much hair, honestly. She begins to retreat backward, in the direction of the little row of cottages on the edge of town that she and Kurama call home.]

Are you able to manage it by yourself?

[He can't quite resist rolling his eyes at his sister. Honestly, it's just hair, even if there is...a great deal of it.]

Very good, then - there's quite a nice row of cottages we're familiar with; we'll take you there.

[Probably for the best that she can manage it on her own - the best he can do with his own long hair is to keep it relatively untangled and out of his face. And the only women he knows are the workers in Highcrest's brothel, which doesn't seem like the best option at the moment. He's not even sure how old the girl is.]

Oh, but we haven't even been introduced yet. Forgive me for my rudeness - I'm Kurama, and this is my sister, Emmanuelle.

[He gives her a low bow.]

Thank you very much. I think it'll be alright for the time being.

[Just as long as it's not crowded. And she wonders why she has to brush her hair longer than normal while she drags it around.]

It's nice to meet you both. My name is Rapunzel.

[Emmanuelle catches that eye roll, and with a small sigh, she sketches a little bow as well. She refuses to curtesy, unless it's required for a job.]

Likewise, I'm sure. [She looks around, a bit anxiously.]
