Serious question. Are Pokémon really so weird to most people here? A lot of people I've talked to say stuff like, "animals where I come from can't call down lightning or breathe fire"... I'm gonna be honest with you, your animals sound kinda boring.

[ speaking of which, there's one such Pokémon -- a Raichu -- sitting on his lap. every once in a while, there seems to be a crackle of electricity that sparks around its cheeks. Volkner is utterly unfazed, even when some of them seem to actually hit him. ]

... Ah. Another question. I'm in Crystalden now, but I haven't left very much... what are the other districts like? Anything interesting to see?

Hey, not all animals are completely powerless. I'm friends with a duck who knows a ton of powerful magic, including fire and electric spells.

[...That Raichu catches Riku's eye, though. Pardon him if he watches the electric mouse a little bit.]

As for other districts, Orlea's all right. Just like any modern city, I'd say.

Well, first you have to understand that Donald's not from the same world. Back home, we've just got ordinary fish and seagulls. Donald's a bit more human-like than your average duck, and he's a magician to boot.

But magic's one of those things anyone can pick up with enough practice. I know I've learned a few tricks.

[And for the second question, give him a second because... hm. He forgot to consider that different worlds have different technology levels.]

Working electricity comes to mind. Indoor plumbing. Radios, television, cell phones... things like that. It's not exactly as advanced as Crystalden, but at least it's got some conveniences.

I'd say it's a mixed bag. Whether or not people use it depends on the world and who you're dealing with. That, and magic's not always used for good. Think I've encountered more than enough witches to last a lifetime...

[Maleficent, Mim, Ursula... He's sure there are more out there, too.]

And really? Even if it's not the most exciting District, I think I'd take Orlea over dealing with the fairies in Whitewood. Word is, they're pretty nasty.

I've saved other worlds... with a little help from my friends.

[But now he's well accustomed to it... and besides, he has to. The door's still open because of his own reckless choice.]

And the fairies could just be malicious by nature. I know Tinker Bell had a pretty hot temper, but she's probably cut from a different cloth.
