Rehearsal 1: [Text, from Astralfield]

[The text is written in long, loopy handwriting, and displays as a dark blue -- the color of the chalk he's using. Victor's not even close to figuring out the video function yet.]

I -- I don't even know what I'm doing. . . Apparently this chalkboard can be used to talk to other people? Like letters, only more -- instant? Oh dear, I'm so confused. . .

Is there anyone out there who can explain this to me? All I know is that I was in my room, preparing to draw, when suddenly I blacked out and then. . .

[And he just can't help asking the question that's been on his mind since he first woke up here.]

Is this Wonderland?

I understand. My mother was always going on about how 'old money' and the 'upper classes' did things. It wore on your nerves after a while.

The Everglots? The elder lord and lady rather scared me, I admit. But Victoria proved to be a very nice young lady -- shy and quiet, like me. (How she ended up that way with such parents. . .then again, you could ask the same of me, honestly. My mother is the loudest person one could ever know.)

[He was glad his goat dad never bothered him about such things, though he did get it plenty from the older high blooded trolls.]

[He shook his head, nope didn't mean the family. He then places his hand to his heart, indicating that he was asking if he had loved either Emily or Victoria.]

[It takes a moment for Victor to interpret what he's asking. Once he does, though. . .]

I -- I'd say I loved them both. I was willing to drink poison for Emily, and to take a sword through the vitals for Victoria. I wanted them to be happy and safe, even after knowing them for such a short time.

On the other hand, that short time means either love didn't get much of a chance to bloom. I still care for both of them, but I think the romantic part has faded with time.

[Kurloz can't help but smile as he read about what lengths Victor would go for the girls. Then he began to think that maybe this guy would understand him. He looks away for awhile, thinking to himself.]

[Then he begins to type again.]

THE SISTER WHO SPEAKS OF WONDERLAND, YOU LOVE HER?

A little. Maybe a lot.

[Wohoo!]

Uhm... a couple of weeks? It was quite confusing at first but you can... easily get used to this place after a while. More or less. And, wait, you're using a chalkboard? Anyway, you're the first one to call this place the 'Wonderland'. Maybe it is, who knows, still it's not the used name. Anyway, welcome here... what's your name?

[Victor's always been the type to put others before himself -- particularly those he loves. And when it comes to those he loves being threatened. . .well. He didn't care what happened to him in that fight -- he just wanted to stop Barkis.

That question gets an immediate answer.]

Yes. She's my best friend, the one I've always felt most comfortable talking to -- and she saved me from one of the most despicable monsters living in London's East End.

[You can't see it, but Victor's body tightens with anger at the mere thought of said monster. If only he'd gotten to see Alice put paid to him. . .]

She's the most amazing woman I've ever met and

[And who knows how long it'll be until he sees her again.]

Well, having never been to Heaven, I couldn't say for sure. . . The Land of the Dead is populated by walking corpses. It's sort of a -- undead, off-kilter mirror of the living world. And about five times more welcoming, depending on where you live.

Well, I suppose that's a good thing to know.

[He does tend to adapt easily once he's gotten a chance to settle in. Hopefully it'll be the same here.]

Er -- yes? That's the device the Queen gave me before she sent me on my way. Someone else mentioned using a pillow -- what are you using?

They've told me it's called Mallow Hallow. I had to ask, it just -- sounds like a place a friend of mine from home talked a lot about.

[Insert missing of Alice here.]

[Kurloz blinks, surprised at how fast the answer comes before he starts to read. His head tilts slightly as Victor talks about the monster. He then looks concerned when his message cuts off. But he can suspect why Victor cut off. It was a miracle to ever find that one person who can accept you for all you are without any strings attached.]

[His words made him think of Meulin, and he frowns a little. He's been trying his hardest not to think of her, only allowing his thoughts to wonder when everyone was asleep and he was alone. Because he was alone again, despite the few people that have been absolutely amazing, there wasn't anybody here that stood up to his wicked kitty bitch and his best friend. And he found himself getting lost in his own think pan again.]

[Victor waits for a reply, but -- well. Kurloz seems to have wandered off into some faraway mental street. He frowns, biting his lip. Seems this fellow is missing someone too. Which shouldn't really be a surprise, honestly. If this world just grabs people from others at random. . . He fiddles with the chalk for a moment before writing again.]

I hope I haven't brought up any painful memories.

[He hears his phone go off and he's looking at it again, shaking his head at the words. He smiles at the screen, seemingly back to normal. He's usually really good with controlling his emotions, sorry for worrying you Victor.]

NO BROTHER, I WAS JUST THINKING OF MY OWN MIRACLE GIRL, AND THE GOOD TIMES WE HAD TOGETHER. :o)

I'LL PRAY FOR YOU TWO. IT JUST AIN'T COOL, SEPARATING MOTHER FUCKERS LIKE THAT.

I see. I haven't really been either, but I've spent a lot of time in Makai, and there are a lot of different things.

Oh, I see.

Thank you -- it really isn't. And I hope maybe you can see your "miracle girl" one day again as well.

[He means it too. Nobody deserves to be torn away from those they love.]

Have you? If -- if you don't mind me asking, what was it like?

[Because he's always been told demons were absolutely horrible. . .but he also always been told the dead can't rise again, and we know how that turned out.]

It was a lot of work to get through, but that was because of a couple of different problems. But even though humans say that demons and devils are bad, they're really just like anybody else.

[Victor nods.]

That's how it worked with the Dead. Some people might say they're evil, but they're just people in the end.

[He may sound ever-so-slightly bitter.]

Did something happen?

Oh -- well, the local pastor. . . It's a complicated story, but I may have helped the dead rise for a night, and he didn't take it well.

I'm sorry...

It's all right. I suppose I can understand why he was afraid -- I just wish he hadn't reacted so strongly. They really were harmless, and -- and they deserve better than being called evil.

I know how that works, too.

You do? Oh, I'm very sorry to hear that. It's horrible when people are so intolerant, isn't it? Especially in the face of contrary evidence. . .

[Really, Pastor Galswells, you saw that the dead didn't do anything to hurt your church. Why the hate?]

It'll be all right, though.

I hope so. Guess we can't really know, living here. . .

[Well, she can't -- things haven't been quite all right for him for a while, but he doesn't want to burden her with that.]
