[ The video starts to show a man with a sense of refinement and formality, sitting primly at a desk in what seems to be a rather spacious and neat and normal apartment. The bed is made, the closets are closed, and not a single item seems to be out of place, pretty much. The occupant himself is wearing a suit with a distinct shade of red (if you ask him, he’ll say it’s red, but others might say magenta, or pink), a dark vest and a frilly white cravat. His gray eyes betray a touch of impatience and irritation, but he remains still and clears his throat. ]

Good morning. My name is Miles Edgeworth, and I am a public prosecutor. Like all of you, I have been brought to this...this location against my will and through as yet unknown means.

[ Standing not so primly behind him is a girl. And, while Edgeworth may be the picture of poise and dignity, his companion with the bright pink shirt and the golden key dangling from her ponytail is most definitely not. This could be attributed to the way she’s currently mimicking his posture and expression with exaggerated motions. Edgeworth frowns, she grimaces comically. He clears his throat, she clutches at hers like she’s choking.

It’s probably a good thing that he hasn’t turned around yet. ]

And as of now, no one has found a way to leave and return to where they came from. [ He folds his arms across his chest, tapping his right index finger on his left arm. Edgeworth clearly wants nothing better than to return to where he came from, and still does not notice what the girl behind him is up to. ] Though we currently have information regarding the various districts and our...hosts, there is a dearth of knowledge not only regarding how we got here and how to leave, and why we are even here in the first place.

[ The girl makes a noise, a hoity-toity quiet sort of “harrumph harrumph”, as she folds her arms in imitation of Edgeworth’s pose. When he glances over his shoulder at her, though, her hands are clasped in front of her chest and her gaze is earnest and absolutely innocent. ]

That’s horrible, isn’t it, Mr. Edgeworth? All those unsolved mysteries! All those uneaten Swiss Rolls I stashed under your couch cushions, left to get all moldy... we should get on that investigation bit soon!

[ He lets his arms drop. Though he is now facing away, one could figure out from his voice that his expression is very deadpan. ]

If you do leave anything under my couch, you are responsible for cleaning it up, Kay. [ The prosecutor faces his phone again, forehead furrowed in thought. ] Now, this brings me to my proposal: It would do us and potential newcomers good to have a document compiled with what we know, as it may help us deduce new information and lead us closer to the truth, instead of simply leaving everyone’s findings scattered across the network. I have scoured it for anything worth remembering, but anyone should feel free to contribute.

[ He pauses to reach up and adjust his cravat a bit.

In response, Kay reaches up to arrange her muffler in the manner of his cravat. Except that mufflers aren’t cravats and instead of adjusting hers, she tightens it a little too much and lapses into a squeaky choked noise when it proves a wee bit uncomfortable.

At that, Edgeworth turns around again, a bit faster this time. ]

What are you doing?!

[ Before dealing with his assistant, he reaches out to switch his phone off. The last thing anyone will hear is Kay’s protest of “You’ll scare them all away if you don’t lighten the mood!!” That’s all, folks.

And expect tags from either Edgeworth, Kay, or both of them. ]

Good afternoon, Mr. Edgeworth. And the same to your companion. Kay, was it? Your name is not unfamiliar to me. I am Kristoph Gavin of Gavin Law Offices. [Well, not anymore, but no one has to know that.]

I'd be more than willing to help you with your laudable investigation, but so far I've learned nothing of import aside from those basic facts you have yourself laid out already. If I find myself faced with any new revelations, I will gladly share them with you.

Gavin Law Offices...? Are you a prosecutor too?

No, although I have a great deal of respect for the prosecution, I come from the other side of the courtroom. I'm a defense attorney.

Did you ever face Mr. Edgeworth in valiant battle?

Sadly, I haven't had the pleasure. Perhaps if we're able to return home, I'll have that opportunity someday.

[No, he won't. They generally don't let people defend from jail.]

I'd like to see that! [ Kay no. ]

D'you know the name Faraday, then? [ because Kay doesn't remember all the defense attorneys her dad went up against, but... ]

Perhaps you will. It would be a great honor to engage in a contest of wits and facts with Mr. Edgeworth. I'm sure it would be quite stimulating.

Faraday? It rings a bell. Why do you ask?

My dad was a prosecutor, too-- Byrne Faraday.

Ah. No. I never faced him in court. But I'm familiar with the story, of course. Very tragic.

[Kristoph's tone is sympathetic, gentle.]

I hear he was a great lawyer.

[ he was, in her eyes. Amazing. He'd been her hero, after all.

Now isn't the time to let her eyes start stinging, though. ]

He would've been happy to hear that, so I'll thank you in his place!

You're very welcome.

I don't doubt he would be proud to see his daughter has grown into such a lively and intelligent young woman.

Are you planning to pursue a career in law yourself?

I'm not cut out to make so many serious faces, like Mr. Edgeworth does. I definitely want to bring about justice, though!

[ Daddy would be so proud to see his daughter stealing for the sake of justice. ]

Oh, it isn't a prerequisite for the job. I try not to make too many serious faces, myself. A smile has its place in court as well. [After all, sometimes it's best to use a little gentleness, or a personable persona. To grease the wheels of the law.]

That's a noble goal. I care a great deal about justice myself. What career were you thinking of pursuing?

Thievery!

[ ... Kay. Kay, stop. ]

Kristoph isn't sure what to make of this. His lip twitches, ever so briefly, and he adjusts his glasses.]

Thievery? That's not what I would consider an honorable career. That's hardly the way to bring about justice, is it?

[Gavin...Gavin...hmm, Edgeworth feels he has heard that name before, maybe. But in any case, here was a lawyer, and he seems to know a thing or two about his job. And he did say Edgeworth's name was not unfamiliar.

The prosecutor inclines his head in place of a bow and greets Kristoph with a small grin; he is still seated, after all. It would be silly to suddenly stand up and bow before his phone.]

A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Gavin. Your assistance is appreciated.

Which fields of law do you specialize in? [Hey, could be corporate, could be criminal, could be whatever.]

The pleasure is mine, Mr. Edgeworth. I'm delighted to meet another attorney here, especially one so distinguished and renowned as yourself. Perhaps at some point we might meet to discuss the finer points of the law.

[He smiles. He is disappointed not to have been heard of, but he doesn't let his irritation show.]

I am a criminal defense lawyer.

You can be sure of my support. Have you discovered anything of particular interest thus far?

[Edgeworth hardly reacts to being called "distinguished and renowned", although the fact that Kristoph had heard of him is an important fact and he will make note of that in his head.

He nods in interest; criminal law, eh? Good, good. Some discussion would be interesting, if they weren't up to their ears in crazy.]

At this point, I believe it's common knowledge that any manner of...of sentient creatures are to be found here.

[He frowns; he still can't get over talking cats and talking ponies and that...fairy...thing.]

Someone claims to have been injured prior to arriving here, and is in better condition now.

[Still annoyed at not being known (if he'd had more high profile cases...), Kristoph continues to smile politely, affably.]

People other than human? I believe I've seen some evidence on that on our communicators, yes. [In his usual way, he'd had to stalk everyone, but without talking to them himself, as most of them hadn't seemed worth the effort He doesn't speak to boors or fools if he can avoid it.] Other worlds, other universes... it's the stuff of fiction, isn't it?

So this place may have healing properties as well? Fascinating. It's a shame so many have been displaced without their consent, but I feel fortunate to have the chance to have so many novel experiences. [And most importantly, to not be in prison.]

[And Edgeworth's expression remains calm and accommodating while listening to Kristoph. He did not just see people who weren't human on the communicators or phones or whatever, he saw them in the flesh and even checked the "fairy" for wires or mechanical gizmos.]

I am looking into this phenomenon as we speak. And...yes, "novel experiences" is one way of looking at it.

[Even if he would rather that his "novel experiences" did not involve him being tossed into a place he wasn't even planning on going to.]

[Kristoph hasn't been out socializing very much. He's very selective about who he spends his time with, unless there's something in it for him. So far, he hasn't seen any opportunities for advancement.]

I confess, I am enjoying it from an intellectual standpoint, though I patently loathe the thought of anyone being kept here against their will. It's not a chance many are afforded, to meet with what might well be people and creatures from other worlds. To talk with them, to learn of their societies.

What form are your investigations taking? Is there any action I can take to assist you?

[I see nothing wrong with meeting people and creatures from other worlds without having to uproot any of us abruptly like this.]

Right now, a hands-on approach is best so I may see for myself what else this place has to offer, but it certainly helps to ask around, the way I am now. Someone has also suggested a questionnaire.

At this point, all I ask is that you remain vigilant, in case our hosts decide to surprise us further.

[It would be too much to ask Kristoph to please go and walk around the entirety of Mallow Hallow; besides, Edgeworth can do that himself, with Kay by his side. And possibly Maya and Larry.]

Oh, I quite understand. But know that you have my aid, should you ever need it.

A questionnaire sounds like an excellent idea. I'll be happy to fill it out.

I'll most certainly be remaining as vigilant as I'm able. If our "hosts" are willing to kidnap us, who knows what else they might do? By the way, what district are you housed in? Are you in Orlea, as well? [The apartment he's in does seem relatively normal.]

I see. Our circumstances aside, I find the district pleasant enough.

Have you done much exploring so far? I take it from your words that you intend to make quite a study of our surroundings.
